We've all survived living with each other for a week - a major achievement since we don't all see each other all the time. We've eaten some fabulous food and drunk some very tasty beers, and also seen some amazing scenery.
After the contrast in weather on Monday, Tuesday came complete with rain/drizzle for pretty much most of the day. However, not to be put off, we headed out to get some of the best pies we've ever tasted from Lochinver Larder. We took DH's daughter and partner as they've not been before (DD just put her order in and left us to it!). If you ever get so far north in the Scottish highlands, it's worth the trip as the pies are fantastic. We came away with savoury lamb, steak and ale, and rhubarb and strawberry - yummy!
We had a bit of deer spotting on the way back....
.......and met quite a few sheep on the road!!!
All this, followed by the arrival of a huge cruise ship in the harbour!!
Wednesday we spent the day with DD and her boyfriend while DH's daughter and partner went out in a boat trip. We went out to do a fairly short walk to a small beach we've been to before. We set off with brilliant sunshine ....
Unfortunately the Scottish weather has had other ideas this week, and before long the heavens opened and we were all getting very wet. And then the rain stopped and the sun came out again. And this is how it carried on for the whole walk! We took a different turn to what we've previously done, (to avoid a bull in a field with having Oscar with us), but still ended up at a lovely little pebbly beach.
By the time we got back to the van we were all very wet again as the rain was coming down quite heavy, so we headed back to dry off!! There was a fabulous rainbow later on that day .........
And Thursday was DH's birthday. Both daughters had been planning together to organise trimming up the house after we'd gone to bed the night before, so DH was met with balloons and a banner. Then while he was chatting and having a coffee with everyone, I nipped out (supposedly to get supplies from the supermarket) to collect a birthday cake that I'd ordered from a local baker! We managed to get out walking after breakfast (a huge delicious cooked breakfast made by my stepdaughters partner). We took everyone to one of our favourite places.
Although it was a bit chilly, it was a lovely walk with fabulous views .....
It's a walk we do every year, weather permitting, while we're there.
And then back to the cottage for the surprise cake for DH! A very, very yummy lemon sponge cake.
Yesterday saw the start of the local skiff races which was interesting to watch (and looked really hard work!).
As the weather wasn't good (yet again) it was more of a mooching (and packing) day as we were all going our separate ways today.
So today our daughters have left with their partners. It's been the end of twelve months of planning. From searching for, and booking a cottage, to accommodate 3 couples and a dog, in a lovely location, and find somebody to make a birthday cake in the area for us, and make sure everybody turned up, it's finally over.
I can breathe a sigh of relief that it's all gone quite well (I think), and that DH has had a birthday to remember .....
A brilliant week, thank you 😊
