Welcome to my blog!
I've decided to set this up to share a little bit about the walks that we do, what books I read and basically our life in general. I intend to keep adding different links and information along the way, so please come back from time to time and see what there is, and feel free to comment on anything.

Oops!

I know. I know. I completely forgot to add an update yesterday. Truth be told, I was so tired I fell asleep! It has been such a busy week again.

DH went away for work on Monday for a change, rather than Tuesday. And when I got home from work on Monday afternoon I decided to get out while it was nice and went for my first run in ten months!!! The consultant had told me to take it easy and do no more than 5 minutes to start with. So that’s what I did in total. Just 5 minutes split into two runs. I was so conscious of not overdoing it that I didn’t go very fast either. But I did it - I got the first run done!

Tuesday was line dancing. And then Wednesday DH was Home. All very confusing as he normally comes home on a Thursday! So Thursday felt like it should be Friday!

Friday was a busy socialising day for me - lunch with ladies from work, then a line dancing social at night.

Then as the weather was nice on Saturday we set about taking a bit more of the cat run down. Yes it’s hard work. Yes it’s taking a while. But will it be worth it? I think so. It’ll be a huge patio area for us finally.

Another week...

So much can happen in the space of a week!

A trip to the vets on Monday afternoon with Titch who has been full of the sniffles and sneezing, followed by a very unplanned part journey to check on DHs mum on Monday night. We didn’t get there in the end but had set off as DH hadn’t been able to contact his mum after knowing she’d been at the hospital. Numerous failed attempts to get through by phone to check she was ok resulted in us getting part way to her house before DH finally managed to speak to her. Thankfully we didn’t have a two hour round trip - just 40 minutes.

I was at the hospital on Wednesday, at the orthopaedic department checking my back is healing ok. After an X-ray and chat to the consultant they have given me the go ahead to start running! Finally! After nearly ten months I can attempt a bit of running. I’ve been told to take it very slow and not do too much to start with. But at least I can try. It’s so good to know everything looked healed enough to start.

And then Thursday happened. Another appointment at the hospital. This time to check my jaw. Something I wasn’t looking forward to at all. So I got there a bit early and waited. And waited. Only to be told that the clinic had been cancelled and we should have been informed! That meant going home and ringing up for another appointment time! This was closely followed by DH arriving home and getting a call from DD to say she’d got a puncture in one of her front tyres as she was leaving work and was sat in a carpark and didn’t know what to do! After telling her to ring her breakdown provider she then let us know when she was expecting them. Her boyfriend headed to where she was to take her some food and stayed with her until the breakdown van arrived - nearly five hours later!!! DD was not happy at all. Especially as she was then told that they couldn’t fix the car and would need to get a breakdown truck. By this time it was nearly 10pm so they arranged for the truck to pick the car up Friday morning and DD eventually arrived home at 11pm. What a day for her!

Friday was a better day thankfully and a good night out with DD and her boyfriend as we all went to Manchester to see Michael McIntyre. It was a really good night and a chance to sit and relax and have a good laugh. After the week we’ve all had I think we were all ready for it.

And then yesterday I helped DH take some more of the cat run down. It’s getting there. Slowly.

It’ll make the garden look so much bigger. So much for us thinking we’d be able to just knock it down easily! No chance! We’ll keep plodding on with it over the next few weeks....

It gets round to the end of the week so quickly. Blink, and it’s gone!

Every day .....

Over the last week there has not been one day when I haven’t been doing something in addition to working.

On Monday night I went to the woodturning club for the last of the hands on nights until the autumn. And thoroughly enjoyed it. Then after work on Tuesday I met up with a friend who’s going through a difficult time just now so I spent a while with her before heading home to get ready for line dancing. Or at least I’d planned on going line dancing. What actually happened was I got a text from DD asking if I fancied going round as she wanted company! So, no line dancing, but a very unscheduled visit to DD!

On Wednesday I managed to finish work a bit earlier and had arranged to go to get some woodturning practice. One of the members of the club on Monday had said it was ok if I went round, so I spent about 3 hours practicing and watching and taking notes. All I need to do now is get our garage sorted so I can set myself up with a lathe!

And then Thursday again with a long day at work and not much time to do anything at night apart from start packing ready for Friday. I’d booked for us to have a night away at Far Sawrey in the Lake District. It was such a lovely place where we went and we had a lovely view from our room.

The pub was really busy in the main eating area, but down a few stairs you ended up in what looked to be the old stable area, so we went down there where it was quiet after we’d eaten.

Saturday morning we had a lovely breakfast and then set off on a shortish walk directly from the pub. Although it was a bit overcast when we set off, by the time we were heading back it was glorious weather!

There were signs of spring arriving everywhere, with green shoots coming through ......

.....and fabulous views of the fells ......

We had lunch back at the pub before setting off home. It was lovely to be out in such good weather and to arrive home in brilliant sunshine.

Today’s weather, however, was quite a contrast. I’d put my name for a task day with the Woodland Trust - site familiarisation for a couple of hours. As a new volunteer for a local estate it seemed a good idea to go and get an idea how big the estate is and what there is there. The way there involves going over moorland which is normally a nice drive if the weathers ok. Today it was rain and hailstones for a lot of it! Not very nice at all. Thankfully by the time I parked up it had stopped and our group managed to stay fairly dry for most of the walk round. It was quite an eye opener as I had no idea how large the Woodland Trust site was. And a very informative afternoon as different people gave their knowledge of the area. Definitely worth going.

So I’ve had quite a packed week! I’m hoping this week will be a little better, although I have two hospital appointments to get through - one with the orthopaedic department to check my back and arm, and one with the oral department to check my jaw. Fingers crossed everything looks ok.

And I’m pleased to say that I’ve finally managed to plant up my tubs at the front of the house......

Back to normal.....

This last week has been back to normal, as normal as we can be. After returning to work on Tuesday after Easter Monday Bank Holiday, we were both back at normal work hours - DH went off to work early Tuesday morning, and came home Thursday as he used to.

I went line dancing on Tuesday night - late Easter party which was good with lots of nice food provided. And then Wednesday afternoon, after getting home after work, I made the most of the dry weather (in-between rain showers on Wednesday) and headed out for a walk by our local canal. Spring is definitely on its way, even though it might not feel like it sometimes.....

Thursday was the first time in over 9 months that I've been at work until the phone lines stop taking calls. I used to do one night a week until the end of the day, but having spent the last few weeks gradually building up my hours, this was the first time I've stayed til the end of the day.

And Friday. And relax. Well sort of. I spent most of the day in the garden, weeding, having this little fella watching me, waiting to see what was unearthed with all the weeding!

We’re also trying to dismantle the cat run. With only having Titch now it seems sensible to take the run down and open up the patio for us.

And Sunday we managed to get up to Grasmere. We were late setting off and it was quite busy, but it was lovely to be out.

Another week ahead of us. Let’s see what this one brings .....

Easter weekend

It's been a lovely Easter weekend, starting with a bit of DIY and a visit to my mums, and then a lovely weekend away with DD.

Since our accident last year I haven't had any time away with DD. We would normally have had a few days away with her Auntie in October, but obviously due to circumstances at home we weren't able to. So, for my birthday in January DD had bought us tickets to go and see the musical Wicked in Liverpool on Saturday 31st March, and we had decided to stay overnight in Liverpool to make it a nice weekend. And to make it a more relaxing weekend we decided to get the train, rather than drive.

So, Saturday lunchtime we caught the train to Liverpool and checked in to our hotel which was just across the road from the train station. We had a couple of hours to spare before our meal, which was booked for 6pm, so we wandered down to the theatre to see where we needed to get to.

We did a bit of shopping (or rather, DD did some shopping), before wandering down for our meal which DD had also booked for us. We both had grilled halloumi to start with...

...and then I had a salad which delicious.

And then off to our seats. Now I don’t like heights at all but had told DD that the seats she’d got for us would probably be fine - upstairs, lower circle. I though I’d be ok. However, as we went up the stairs and turned on to the walkway between the upper and lower circle it became very clear just how steep these seats were. And we were only four rows from the edge! I nearly didn’t make it to them. DD went in front to see where they were, and I slowly made my way down to them. And sat down. And stayed there for the whole time! To say I was scared is an understatement, and even DD was a bit nervous of where we were sat. But the view of the stage was incredible. We were almost in the centre looking down on everything.

The performance was outstanding and we both really enjoyed it. Admittedly we didn’t move even during the interval, but those seats were excellent. And we enjoyed it so much that we’ve talked of going to see it again later in the year! And have now booked tickets to go and see another musical in a few months.

It was lovely having a night away. Poor DH had to cope with Titch for the night .....

(Yes, I know, a really tough job ....). DH picked us up from the station yesterday, and after a quick lunch I took DD home.

And today we’ve been out to get more bits for the house. For the spare room this time to get that finished off. There’s not much to do really, but it all takes time.

Then it’s back to work tomorrow. Back to normal with early starts. At least it’s only a short week ......
