Holding Page

Welcome to my blog!
I've decided to set this up to share a little bit about the walks that we do, what books I read and basically our life in general. I intend to keep adding different links and information along the way, so please come back from time to time and see what there is, and feel free to comment on anything.

Time!

Another week gone again!

Please can somebody just pause it for a little while so that I can get stuff done?! I don't seem to sit still much these days, and that's despite still feeling not quite right with these weird dizzy spells (which the doctors still don't know what the cause it and still want more blood tests).

What with line dancing Monday night, my mums for tea on Tuesday night, catching up with the washing on Wednesday night and taking DD for her nails on Thursday night, last night was time to flop for all of about half an hour or so after tea so I could finally finish another book (yes, I know I still need to do those book reviews as I keep reminding myself).

I took Oscar out with DH the other night too, down by the canal (normally only one of us takes him), and what a lovely night!

It's so nice and peaceful walking that way.

Hopefully we'll get a bit more walking in this weekend, weather permitting.

Quick update!

I've not had chance to post much this week. Partly due to running out of time, and partly due to feeing unwell for much of the week. After having a fasting blood test early Tuesday morning I'm still no nearer finding out what's wrong with me after feeling unwell for about 3 weeks now.

However, this week I've managed to pot up some tomato plants in to bigger pots...

... plant out some of my carrot seedlings....

.... and even pick just one ripe strawberry! (think we'll have to wait a bit longer for any more strawberries).....

I've also managed to fit in tea at my mum's with DD, a quick session on a sunbed (first ever time!!!!), a visit to the hairdressers and a 'Lunch with the Ladies' (one of my friends now lives in Bali so she was back in the UK for a short spell so we arranged to meet up with a few friends which was lovely). And also a full week at work.

So not exactly a quiet week!

Hopefully this weekend will give me chance to write up the book reviews of the two books I read while we were in Crete (that feels like a lifetime ago now), and pot up some more tomato plants.

Fingers crossed ......

Sunny afternoon!

Right, so the holiday update has finally been done! Just a week late, but it's finally done.

Today I went to Manchester with DD so that we could meet up with her Auntie. As DD is going to be her Auntie's bridesmaid in August, we had a bit of a chat about how the wedding plans are going, and arranged to meet up again soon so that hair and make-up can be practised.

What a lovely day today! It was lovely and sunny, but so, so busy in the centre. We had a lovely leisurely lunch and then just wandered round for a little while before deciding to pick up a few holiday brochures to look at for our girls holiday in October.

That's the next task for DD - to find us a nice holiday for mid-October for the three of us, preferably sunny and warm this time.

My task this week at home is to sort out the vegetable plants in the greenhouse which desperately need potting in to bigger pots - peas and beans just don't do as well in small pots, and they really need to have a bit more room. Fingers crossed they all survive!

Stephens Story

If you haven't already heard about Stephen Sutton and his fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust, please click on these two links and go and have a look.

Stephens Story on Facebook

What an inspirational young man who sadly passed away this morning at just 19.

There's nothing else to say really - I think the websites speak for themselves.

I just wanted to share this as I think to accomplish what he did is just so humbling for the rest of us who take life for granted.

Back to the routine

It doesn't take long to get back in to the old routine does it? One minute you're on holiday in the sun, the next minute you're back at work taking telephone calls all day long, and DH is away at work again.

Ah well, we have the memories of the week away, and the photographs (which I aim to sort out by the weekend).

Tonight DD wanted to make brownies and use a recipe that she'd found by Tanya Burr who she follows on Youtube. I have to admit I wasn't too sure about making these as they have avocado and coconut oil in them. However, we followed the recipe (with DD making a bit of a mess in the kitchen along the way) and they turned out really yummy! Very rich, but very, very tasty.

They're so easy to make as well - no weighing to do either!

Have a go if you get chance - just click on the link and it should take you to the video to watch and follow.

Home again!

Just a very brief update to say that the reason I've not updated this blog for a week is because we've all been on holiday, me, DH and DD.

We headed off to Crete last weekend (never been before) and arrived home in the early hours of this morning (3am ….not good ….). So, we're all feeling a little tired and trying to catch up with washing and ironing now.

I took loads of photo's and will attempt to put some on my holiday page this week.

For now, here's a selection of what we saw - what a lovely island and such friendly people - I wish we could have stayed longer.

Thank you!!

I've looked at my stats today for this blog and am amazed to see that it's been viewed over 1000 times now! How amazing is that?! When I originally wrote my first post I didn't even think that many people would come across my blog. And here we are, weeks later, having been viewed from all over the world! So a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have stumbled across my ramblings. Whether you come back to see what else I've been up to, I don't know. But if you do, thank you for reading.

The sun was shining today and I've seen lots of bluebells while I've been out and about.

I've also been down to my friend's and seen Cheeky with his mate today

I also had to get all the cats to the cattery this afternoon in readiness for our family holiday. Not an easy task when there's six of them, and they don't all want to go in the carriers.  I'm sure some of the girls didn't want to move ......

My girls. All cuddled up on the heated bed in their cosy box. I'm guessing that's where they'll be now. Nice and warm. I think that's where I should be!

New book review

Just a quick update to say I've put another book review on my book page.

It's been a busy week as we build up to a family holiday, so we've got all the packing and sorting to do, on top of DH working away and being away for an extra night as well. All the cat's claws have to be trimmed before they go to the cattery, and it's meant getting all the cat carriers down from the loft tonight ready for them.

My poor mother has the joy of having both dogs while we're away. It's a big ordeal for Oscar as he doesn't cope with change very well, so being in a strange house for a week will be tough for him. Not as tough as being in kennels though. I've been taking the dogs to my mum's once a week for a few weeks now to try and get Oscar used to the house. It's such a shame as you can tell he doesn't really know where he is or whether he should be frightened or not. He's just such a nervous dog. By the time he's been there a few days I know he'll be fine, but it's the initial leaving him that will be hard.

So, ironing and packing to do, a trip to the cattery and a sort out of the plants in the greenhouse for my mum to keep an eye on. At some point there may even be time for a sit down and a drink…...
