Welcome to my blog!
I've decided to set this up to share a little bit about the walks that we do, what books I read and basically our life in general. I intend to keep adding different links and information along the way, so please come back from time to time and see what there is, and feel free to comment on anything.

Whittling!

The last week has been a bit of a whirlwind, filled with whittling and painting.

I have a three day craft fair coming up at the end of this month, and one thing that I really want to do this year is to do more whittling and have more fully handcrafted items for sale. So, our house has been a bit full of wood shavings lately! Each piece takes quite a while to do, but I was very pleased with this wooden heart ......

......and I'm working on a few small wooden spoons ......

I might just get 6 or 7 ready to take with me, and a couple of hearts. Enough for people to see what I can do, and see what reaction I get.

We've also been decorating our dining room. The lounge is almost finished - just waiting for a new fire and fireplace to be fitted in a few weeks. Decorating the dining room has involved emptying my four bookcases. I like reading. I have a LOT of books. And they all had to be moved ......and this isn't half of them ........!

Thankfully, with hard work, we managed to get all the painting done at the weekend, and even fit in a visit to DDs on Saturday night! My dining room is now finished - yay! And my books are back in their rightful place ....

After too many years we have finally decorated. The only problem now is that having freshly painted rooms downstairs, it makes the rest of the house look a bit tired.  So we may be doing more painting soon........

All change

So much has changed already this year. I'm sat writing this on my own. My first night without DD or DH. DH left for work as normal this morning, and DD has now fully moved in to her new home.

After helping DD paint her bedroom and build some furniture, she stayed there on New Years Day at night. DH's daughter was visiting us on 2nd, so on the way to our house she called in to see DDs house. Then they all came to ours for lunch - both our daughters with their partners. It was lovely. And a chance to catch up with what's been happening as we don't all get together very often. And also a chance to exchange Christmas presents at last!

The next day was my birthday. And what did I do? Decorating in my own home!

Although I have loved having red walls in the lounge as it makes it feel really cosy, if we are ever to sell and move on we've decided to redecorate to a more neutral colour scheme. So, no more red. We now have light grey and dark grey, and a new fireplace and fire on order. The start of working through the house to get it looking good enough to sell. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.

DH made me a lovely birthday meal at night. And just for fun, because we had a selection of desserts left, we put together mini portions of everything for DD after she passed comment on them all.....

.....homemade trifle, tiramisu, scones and chocolate tart.

As we didn't manage to get out walking in the hills on Wednesday due to taking the kittens to be neutered at the vets, we opted for a lovely canal walk with Oscar in the afternoon.

Cold, but lovely. Then more decorating, shopping and visiting DH's mum. We also helped DD move the rest of her belongings in to her house so she could move in completely on Sunday.

So that's it. She's gone. Moved in with her boyfriend. My little girl with a house of her own. How time flies. Although I'm sure there's still some of her stuff here........
